ಒಬ್ಬನಿದ್ದ ಬಡವ. ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಮಾರಿ ಜೀವನ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. ಅವನು ಒಂದು ಅಂಗಡಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಮಾರುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. ಒಂದು ಕೆ ಜಿ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಮಾರಿ ಅದರ ದುಡ್ಡು ಇಸಕೊಂಡು ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುವುದು. ಇದು ಅವನ ದಿನಚರಿ ಒಂದು ಸಲ ಆ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಕೊಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಧಣಿ ಗೆ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಯನ್ನು ತೂಕ ಮಾಡುವ ಹುಕ್ಕಿ ಬಂತು. ಅರೆ ಇದೇನು ೯೦೦ ಗ್ರಾಮ್ ಮಾತ್ರ ಇದೆ. ಬರಲಿ ಅಂವ ಮಾಡ್ತೀನಿ ಇವತ್ತು ಅಂತ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಕಾಯ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದ.
ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಮಾರುವವ ಬಂದೊಡನೆ "ಏನಂತ ತಿಳಕಂಡಿದ್ದೀಯಾ. ಇಷ್ಟು ದಿನ ಮೋಸ ಮಾಡಿದೀಯಾ. ಇನ್ನೇ೦ದು ನನ್ನ ಅಂಗಡಿಗೆ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಮಾರಲು ಬರಬೇಡಾ"ಅಂತ ಆವಾಜ್ ಹಾಕಿದ.
ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ಮಾರುವವ: ಧಣಿಗಳೇ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡ ಬೇಡಿ. ಈ ಬಡವನ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊಡಿಬೇಡಿ. ನೀವು ಪ್ರತಿ ದಿನ ಕೊಡುವ ದುಡ್ಡಿನಿಂದಲೇ ನನ್ನ ಜೀವನ. ಎಷ್ಟು ಬಡವನೆಂದರೆ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ತೂಕ ಮಾಡಲು ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಒಂದು ಕೆ ಜಿ ತೂಕದ ತಕ್ಕಡಿ ಕಲ್ಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ನೀವು ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಒಂದು ಕೆ ಜಿ ಸಕ್ಕರೆ ಗೆ ಸಮ ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಣ್ಣೆ ತೂಕ ಮಾಡಿ ಕೊಡುವವ ನಾನು .....

Just returned from a tour of Madhya Pradesh, (Indore and Maandu - Rani Roopmathi Palace and River Narmada in spate). Our soonabai is a purebred Marathi Indorian.
Indoreans also cook patrodes. It occurred to me there that the name patrode might be derived from the Samskrata word Paatra which means Leaf.

our MP trip gets rescheduled time and again. hopefully this October...
paatra means leaf..yes!! bengali's do a patraaNi mach where the fish is cooked in plantain leaf...In Mumbai they call patroDe alu vadi...of course the method of preparation is different.

life has always been treating me royally -- it is just that I need to protect me from myself.

MP we have just seen Indore and nearby places. There is lots and lots of places in the big State.This October we might go to Bheemashankar near Pune.
