Road expansion work is going on full steam at Teerthahalli- Azad Road. Azad Road would be widened up to 12 meters on either sides from the middle.
The road will be widened up to the yellow arrow mark. that means our shop, five rooms above it and portion of the steps leading to the attic -my favorite place of all times- will be demolished. Since it is a 100 year old house and not very strong we are razing the entire structure and building something new in that place. Meanwhile new home will be constructed in the farmland, 5 miles away from town.
we are completely razing the structure to the ground.
A few pictures of our old house. Our house and general store is located very near to the koppa circle.

When i married and came to teerthahalli 25 years a go it was nothing but a simple sleepy temple town, but with sudden shoot in prices of areca and then Vanilla quite a number of farmers became economically sound leading to related commercial growth like banks etc and rise in advanced economic acitivity and hence a floating population.
some materials in the attic
a few old trunks. found lot many black & white photographs
Of course it is saddening, but a good road is the necessity of the time since it connects Mangalore to Shimoga. why just during my last visit a bus rammed into the rear of an auto. though there were no injury to passengers..in the process it held up the traffic for quite a bit. my favorite place the attic will no more be there!!!!
Last week of May we spent some time at Teerthahalli. here are some pictures of the tunga river. The time is between 4.30 pm and 6.00 pm
the Ram mantapa is visible in the distance. When there is a heavy rainfall the the mantapa dissappears into the water. many a people come by to watch this spectacle.
the soft golden sands on the bank of the river
delightfully warm and toasty feel to the sand at 4.30 in the evening.
part of the bridge built by Sir M. Vishweshwariah, can be seen in this pic
Rock pathway
natural slide (jaarubanDe)

When Ram is in the vicinity can Hanuman/anjaneya be far behind??This section of the river near the etching is considered holy!
